Baby Boomers are flocking to Las Vegas. According to a new report, one Vegas ZIP code has seen a 79 percent spike in Boomer population in just the last five years.

According to a new report from RENTCafe, the 89139 ZIP code has seen a 79 percent uptick in its Baby Boomer population since 2014.

The jump is likely due to Sin City’s nice weather and laid-back attitude, according to RENTCafe’s Florentina Sarac.

“Living in Las Vegas can be a smart choice for seniors as they get to enjoy not just sunny weather, but also a wide range of entertainment options and that laissez-faire lifestyle that the area has to offer, without having to put a lot of money into housing and taxes,” Sarac said.

Austin, Texas is also a hotspot for the Boomer generation, claiming four of the top 20 ZIP codes for this cohort over the last five years. The city’s 74 percent increase in 78754 is just the icing on the cake.

Other cities big for Boomer movers are Mesa, Gilbert and Phoenix, Arizona; Amarillo, Odessa and Irving, Texas; Portland, Oregon; Irvine and San Jose, California; Indianapolis; and Omaha, Nebraska. All have seen a 33 percent increase in Boomers or higher.

Where Boomers love to live

Hotspots aside, Arizona rules in terms of Boomer population share. In Scottsdale’s 85266 ZIP, Baby Boomers make up a whopping 35 percent of the city’s residents.

Tuscon’s nearby 85739 ZIP comes in third with a 30 percent share. The community sits at No. 2 along with ZIP codes in Amarillo and Florida’s Pompano Beach and Fort Lauderdale.

“Colloquially known as a major retirement destination, Arizona has 5 zip codes with the largest share of seniors,” Sarac said. “With an affordable cost of living and a warm dry climate, the state is a favorite among active adults.”
