According to The State of Property Crime Report from A Secure Life, burglaries cost Texans a whopping $5.5 million last year — by far the highest amount in all the nation.
Other states with high burglary losses were Nevada ($4.4 million), Georgia ($2.9 million), California ($2.3 million) and Ohio ($2.1 million). All in all, American homeowners lost $3.4 billion to burglary in 2017 alone.
Illinois claims the lowest burglary losses at just $30,702. Minnesota, Vermont, New York, New Hampshire, Nebraska and Maine are also on the low end of the spectrum, with less than $700,000 in annual burglary losses each.

Shockingly enough, most of America’s burglaries occur in the daytime. Only 36 percent happen when it’s dark out.
December is the most common month for home burglaries and robberies. In 2017, there were nearly 74,000 daytime burglary incidents and another 37,000 nighttime ones in December. June, July and August are also high burglary months. February sees the least burglaries and robberies of all.

Among the top-stolen items are cash, jewelry, firearms and, some places, even office supplies. Vehicles are the most commonly stolen, high-value item in burglaries and robberies.
